Chief financial Officer (CFO)

Oolu is one of the fastest growing off-grid solar company in West Africa. Our vision is to be the pre-eminent energy and financial service provider to millions of customers in West Africa.

We are now looking for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will be in charge of getting us ready to raise 50m in debt and equity, that over the next 2 years will prepare our firm for M&A activity and IPO.

Start Date: immediate   

Location: Dakar, Senegal (with regular international travel) (negotiable)

Terms: Competitive salary, share options

EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years experience as CFO preferably in a start-up/early growth environment;
  • BA or BS in Finance or Accounting, MBA preferred;
  • Experience securing large structured debt and equity deals (>10M);
  • Operational management experience and a proven track record of building and training teams;
  • Significant leadership and management experience in finance, preferably as a Controller, Finance Director or CFO;
  • Applicant must be fluent in French and English

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a key member of our senior management team, offer strategic thinking and have a deep understanding of our operations;
  • Lead planning for fundraising and secure major debt and equity deals;
  • Manage and oversee finance teams and all financial activities, including strategic planning, financial policies and procedures, business modeling, budgets, accounting practices, internal and external reporting processes and audits;
  • Lead our budgeting, reporting, strategic planning, and shareholder relations;
  • Take a lead role in designing, implementing and managing an innovative portfolio strength strategy to ensure repayment remains high as we scale;
  • Establish business analytics team for data driven business management;
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate analytical tools, information systems, and models of cost behavior to ensure effective and efficient management of resources;
  • Communicate objectives/strategies with Board of Directors and investors;
  • Prepare the company for IPO and M&A activities;
  • Support global expansion and new market roll-out across West Africa;
  • Participate in new business development and creating financial models for new products;
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement strategic improvements to Oolu’s global operation, including country-specific tax-efficient structures, transactions between parent and subsidiary, and maintenance of global inventory.
 
 

Chief of Operations Department

We are looking for a passionate, motivated and dynamic person to drive our operations!

Experience

  • Relevant University degree (operations, international development, business, economics, etc);
  • Experience in operations, distribution and/or sales in rural regions in Senegal;
  • Experience in managing and coordinating teams;
  • Experience in data analysis, data management and creating organisational tools;
  • Experience in HR and basic accounting necessary;
  • Dynamic, flexible, highly motivated, able to hit targets under pressure, open-minded and highly adaptable
  • Driven by our social mission and passionate about rural development

Essential Responsibilities

  • Hire and train local staff in operations and sales, set objectives, analyze and measure progress;
  • Monitor sales and repayments in the region and manage a large team;
  • Ensure repayments remain high and work closely with sales staff and marketing director to hit sales targets;
  • Work closely with technical staff and field staff to identify problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Propose and develop new projects in the field;
  • Design data tools to measure, manage and monitor repayment results on our data platform, and analyse and report on results;
  • Manage and ensure transparency and control over stock and entire supply chain process while maintaining low churn;
  • Ensure after-sales service and repairs for field operations;
  • Develop and acquire partnerships between money transfer and/or mobile money and banks;
  • Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with local communities and local authorities;
  • Manage operations while ensuring accounting and HR processes are followed;
  • Other duties as requested by DG or Board of Directors
 
 

Country Manager (UEMOA)

We are looking for a person to oversee our subsidiary in an undisclosed UEMOA country. Country Managers are the most senior position operating within a country, and thus are responsible for all local P&L, country expansion plans, hiring, marketing, engaging with government officials and securing local and strategic partnerships. This position will report directly to the founders and will have significant influence in broader organizational priorities. He/She will be expected to drive the organizational performance while  maintaining our fun start-up culture.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years top level management experience at a Country Manager position in a growing, fast-paced company in West Africa
  • Extraordinary candidates with 3 years of experience either at an investment bank, a top management consulting firm or a start-up and have experience in Africa will also be considered
  • 2 years of International experience or education abroad is an asset
  • Fluency in French required (English and/or local language is not required but is an asset)
  • Previous experience in HR and Finance necessary
  • Strategic thinker and self-motivated team player
